Transportation in Yogyakarta
Get around, Get in, Get out

Airplane is the easiest and fastest way to get to and out Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta’s airport is Adisucipto International Airport, 8 km east of town. There are several domestic flights that connected Yogyakarta to Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya and Mataram.

Train in Yogyakarta connected to other cities in Indonesia including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Solo. The main railway station in Yogyakarta is Tugu Station, located at Jalan Mangkubumi. Smaller destinations are served from the Lempuyangan Railway Station at Jalan Lempuyangan.

Bus services are widely available and best for long distance travel from/to Yogyakarta. Main bus terminal is Terminal Penumpang Giwangan (Giwangan Bus Terminal), which is located 4 kilometers southeast of the city center. Public buses begin service at 06:00 and finish at 17:00, with some services continuing until 21:00.

Taxi is the most reliable and convenient mode of transportation for traveling around the city. Taxi rates are usually around Rp 3000 for the first kilometre, with a standard 150 Rp for each 100 m.

Motorcycle and Bicycle are available for rent on a daily or weekly basis. These are great to see the city and the country-side around Yogyakarta. Motorcycles costs about $5 / day while bicycles costs about $1 / day.

Becak (trishaw bicycle) in Yogyakarta is a cheap and conveniet way to going around the Yogyakarta city and the price is about 5,000 - 10,000 Rp. for a short trip. Before stepping into a becak, make sure you have bargained before with the becak driver for the agreed upon fare (usually between US$ 0.40 and US$ 0.60).

Andong (Horse Carts) is a horse with a wagon for 2 - 4 person. Usually you can find it at Malioborostreet, however it is not very cheap as it is for tourists. The fare is approximately US$ 0,60 or US$ 0,80 per kilometer.
